Ron Wilch the designer has been recognized by Philadelphia Magazine’s Best of Philly 2017 as the Best tailor and designer.
His entrepreneurial vision for the city, and ambition to unify the industry, led him to produce numerous fashion trade shows, from 1992 through 2005. This commitment to the apparel industry and to revitalizing the manufacturing sector led to his recognition as the ‘FASHION CZAR of Philadelphia’, by former Mayor of Philadelphia, Ed Rendell. Ron has received numerous citations for his diligent and enthusiastic efforts to develop growth of the apparel design and manufacturing industries, and has traveled to numerous countries in search of partnerships in product manufacturing.
To the Editors of GQ Magazine,
"I want to extend a personal thank you to GQ for being the spark that ignited my career in fashion.
At 15, I was flipping through stacks of GQ my older brother kept in his room. I didn’t realize it then, but those pages were shaping my future. I studied every look, every detail of men’s style—from tailoring to attitude. Those visuals stayed with me, taught me, and pushed me to chase excellence in design.
Today, I’m proud to say I’m not only a tailor and designer but also Philadelphia’s first fashion czar. I teach fashion design and tailoring, and I work with amazing clients like Eddie Murphy, Katy Perry, and many more. One of my proudest relationships is with Eve—the superstar artist and actress who, like me, calls Philly home.
My skills, my lifestyle, and the story I live and teach every day all trace back to GQ’s influence. The magazine shaped my vision before I ever touched a needle and thread. What you created in the ’70s helped create me.
With deep appreciation GQ for all the work and vision from the past present and the fucture." Ron Wilch
